about
Without any announcement in advance and definitely surprising Record Of Tides released the new track ‘Random Darknet Shopper’ on January 1st via Zany Music and distributed via Bandcamp. It is supposed to be available for free for a limited time only. Piayda has already debuted the track live during the gig at Consol Gelsenkirchen in 2021. ‘Random Darknet Shopper’ is taken from the long-awaited album ‘Post Internet’ which was already finished in 2020 and originally supposed to be released by Kreislauf.Organistation which unfortunately missed to finish the process. Now the album will finally be released on February 24. It does not belong to the ‘Purchases’ series, the ‘Post Internet’ album is supposed to be the legit follow-up to ‘Black Album’ (2020) while it uses the IDM context for mixing up seventies rock with conceptional and arty electronica.
The title is a quotation from a work by swiss artist collective !Mediengruppe Bitnik. During 2014 and 2016 the group programmed a bot to randomly purchase items from the darknet.
The track comes with a music video directed by Matthias Danberg available via Youtube. It features a first person perspective museum walkthrough exploring different sculptures by Matthias Danberg using computer game aesthetics. Danberg originally produced an environment for a game engine which was actually explorable via internet browser. While the necessary software is no longer functioning, only the recorded walkthrough remains. As the video illustrates a track called ‘Random Darknet Shopper’, Piayda came up with the idea to add night vision to the video. Danberg and Piayda have already collaborated for the Record Of Tides´ music videos ‘Vogh Beats2’ and ‘Horns Of Paradise’. their third video is supposed to be the closure of the video series. The cover artwork for the digital single is also based upon a still from the video.
